Choi Jung Set New Record

The 5th GG Auction Cup met new record for the Female team when Choi Jung (1 dan) beat Kim Dongyeop (9 dan) at the sixth game and got her sixth consecutive victory at this tournament. This is the longest winning streak for female team and the third longest streak after Cho Hunhyun (6 wins) at the 1st cycle and An Kwangwuk (6 wins) at the 3rd cycle.

The journey continued for Choi Jung who won the first two games. She met Jang Sooyong (9 dan) at the third game. She converted her wall at the left side well and matched black's big territory. Choi won the third game by 6.5 points.

At the fourth game, Choi had a big chase at the center and successfully killed Cha Minsoo's group at the center, thus giving her fourth victory.

Choi met her first close game at the championship when she played Kim Dongmyeon (9 dan). Choi used a ko fight at move 121 to take advantage at the end game. She won the game by 1.5 points

After 6 games, the Senior team is down to their last 6 players: Cho Hunhyun (9 dan), Seo Bongsoo (9 dan), Yoo Changhyuk (9 dan), Kim Soojang (9 dan), O Kyuchul (9 dan), and An Kwangwuk (8 dan). Meanwhile, the Female team is still perfect with 12 team members left.

I liked that first game. As a beginner (around 14-13k), I found everything from the opening to the end fairly easy to understand. It seemed like a game that would be very good to review for just emphasizing how important a good grounding in the basic concepts of Go are for success.
