At game 23, Yoo once again played black, while Park Jieun played white. The opening was similiar  with game 22, but this time Park Jieun played keima instead of  ikken basami (one space low pincer). Yoo split Park's groups with black 53 and it turned out to be correct decision because later, black destroyed white's corner and got a big territory with black 83. White resigned 100 moves later.

Korea Won Jeongganjang

After three consecutive victories, Rui brought the tournament to its climax. It was a showdown between China's strongest team member vs. Korea's strongest team member, Park Jieun (9 dan).

Park Jieun (left) vs. Rui Naiwei (right).

The game quickly turned to a big frame game. Park who played white entered Rui's influence sphere with white 46. Rui strengthen the upper side and finally got her attacking chance with black 77 and black 87. However, Park played it cool and got out with white 144. White then played the finishing blow, white 146 and it wasn't long before black resigned.

With this victory, Korea has won the championship 4 times, while China won 3, and Japan never won the tournament before.

Happy faces of Korean team.

Top prize is 75,000,000 Won (approx. $ 67,000), and for runner up is 15,000,000 Won (approx. $ 14,000).

Rui Won Her Third Game

Rui Naiwei is such an iron wall. Being the last player standing from China team, it's such a hard work to bring the team victory, especially because team Korea still has 4 players. However, Rui showed her skill and experience by taking down 3 Korean players.

Rui Naiwei (left) vs. Park Jiyeon (right)

Park Jiyeon is the third Korean player to challenge Rui, after Kim Miri and Lee Hajin failed to stop her.

The game opened with Rui Naiwei, who got white, played a rare pincer. The sequence up to move 25 is rather in a fighting spirit and as a result, white got a big corner while black got thickness. White started to reduce black's moyo with move 46, I wonder if Q14 is better than R14.

A big fight started with black 85. Park Jiyeon aimed her gun at Rui's (not so) weak group. Rui found a way out and Park resigned at move 186.

Here's the game record:

Rui's Second Victory

Rui Naiwei is a hard wall to break and she proved herself once again by beating Lee Hajin (3 pro) at the 12th game.

Rui Naiwei

Rui launched a heavy attack since the very beginning. Resulting 2 white's weak groups. Lee Hajin saved one of them at move 124, but the other was still in red code. Lee tried her final attempt to save the group by attacking black's group at S14, but Rui didn't fall dor it and white resigned at move 165. With this victory, team Korea is down to Park Jiyeon and Park Jieun.

Will Rui able to turn the tide? Or will one of the Parks will stop her?

Rui Naiwei Defended Female Myeongin

Rui Naiwei is still the strongest female player in Korea. Eventhough there are many young and strong players, it seems that no one will able to break Rui's domination for awhile.

Cho Hyeyeon (left) vs. Rui Naiwei (right)

The third game was played at February 18. The score was 1-1 and the winner of this match will take it all.

The game was very solid. Both players played solid move like white 38, white 54, and black 61. The game was even for most of the time, but Rui later strongly attacked white's group and got a big advantage from the attacking. Cho resigned at move 205.

This is Rui's seventh consecutive Female Myeongin and tenth in collective. Only 2 other players ever held this title. They were Park Jieun in 2000 and Cho Hyeyeon in 2004. Also interesting is, Cho Hyeyeon has a total of 8 Female Myeongin title match series and it was all against Rui. Cho only success once in 2004.

Rui Naiwei

Rui beat Cho Hyeyeon challenger by resignation in a fierce battle. The second game will be played at February 15.

Here is the game record:

BC Cad Cup Preliminary's Semi-Final

The semi-final of the 3rd BC Card Cup shows a lot of amateur won over the pros and one person who already claimed a seat at the main tournament.

Round 2 starts!

It was Song Taekon (9 dan) of Korea who won the first seat at the main tournament. He beat Kim Jiin ama at the final. Interesting is, the fact that they played their final game at the same day of their semi-finals. Kim Jiin just beat Lee Qincheng (1 dan) of China while Kim Jiseok beat Kim Joonyong (5 dan) of Korea earlier that day.

With Kim Jiin going down, there are 7 amateurs left at the final, including Min Sangyoun who beat Hane Naoki of Japan and Mok Jinseok of Korea at the 15th Samsung Cup.

Seven female players made it to the final. Wang Xiangyun (2 dan) is the only non Korean between the 7. She will play Lee Taehyun (3 dan) of Korea at the Final. Lee Taehyun is a tough opponent. He is currently at the final of the 15th Chunwon where he is playing Choi Cheolhan (9 dan) in a best-of-5 title series.

There are 27 China player at the final (including Wang Xiangyun). Notably are Jiang Weijie Mingren, Gu Lingyi (5 dan), Tuo Jiaxi (3 dan), Piao Wenyao (5 dan), and Zhou Ruiyang (5 dan).

There are only 5 Japanese left at the final. They are Shuto Shun (7 dan), Oya Koichi (9 dan), Shida Tatsuya (3 dan), Ida Atsushi (2 dan), and Tsuruyama Atsushi (7 dan).

Only 2 Taiwan player made it to the final. They are Li Jinyoung (1 dan) and Lin Zhihan (9 dan).

Here are some games from the preliminary:

Rui Naiwei Stopped Choi Kyubyeong

The Female team at the 4th GG Auction Cup stays alive with the victory of Rui Naiwei over Choi Kyubyeong (9 dan).

Actually it was still An Kwangwuk's turn to represented Senior team, but it seemed he couldn't play for the match and was replaced by Choi Kyubueong. I don't know whether An Kwangwuk's absence was counted as lost by forfeit or not.

The next game will be played at October 15. It will be between Rui Naiwei and Cho Hunhyun.

Here is the game record:
Rui Naiwei (white) vs. Choi Kyubyeong (black). Result: W+R

Rui Naiwei vs. Cho Hyeyeon Again!

It seems that this two long time rival still want to fight each other. After their previous meeting in the 11th Female Myeongin, Rui Naiwei and Cho Hyeyeon will meet each other again in the final of the 15th Female Kuksu. Rui won her final seat earlier in February 2 by beating Lee Minjin, while Cho won her seat later, by beating Park Jiyeon by a small 1.5 margin.

Rui is the record holder for this tournament, since she won 6 out of 14 times this tournament being held, while Cho holds the record for being the most runner-up with 4 times record.

They have met each other in the final of Female Kuksu for 5 times before, with Rui won 4 of them. Let see whether Cho can take revenge of her previous lost in the Female Myeongin or not.

Rui Balanced the Sheet

After losing the first game of the 3 game series at Female Myeongin title match, Rui Naiwei the title holder won the second gam by resignation.

Rui Naiwei

The game went very well for Rui, as she occupied 3 corners in the early game, but she had one unsettled group in the upper board. Cho Hyeyeon aggressively attacked the group. Rui didn't settle it as soon as possible, but she attacked Cho's corner first, before defending the group back.

Cho Hyeyeon

Cho Hyeyeon resigned after 239 moves. With this, Rui got the chance to defend her title.

The game started by Cho surprisingly played a Japanese joseki in the upper right corner. Usually the joseki is played by Japanese pro.

The game went to be a fighting game (which is usual for game between Rui and Cho) with a fight in the upper board. The game became complicated. In the end, a semeai involving two big groups occur. Whoever win the fight, will win.

However, Cho Hyeyeon played a double ko, which ensure her victory.
