Shiraishi Yuichi Won Shinjin O

The 35th Shinjin O winner had been decided. The final game between Shiraishi Yuichhi (3 dan) and Mitani Tetsuya (6 dan) was won by Shiraishi.

Mitani Tetsuya (left) vs. Shirashi Yuichi (right). Mitani Tetsuya looks really disappointed here.

Mitani who played white in this game opened the game well by successfully trapping black's group at the left side. However, white got greedy and played the sequence from 58-72 which made white at the right side became very weak. Shiraishi used this chance well and captured 5 stones and also saved his stones that were under attack. Black continued by playing the smart sequence from 95-101 and his early dead stones came to live and killed white instead! Black finished the game well and won by resignation at move 199. I think this is a complete victory for Shiraishi!

Shiraishi Yuichi

This is Shiraishi's first time to be champion at professional tournament. Congratulations!

Shiraishi Yuichi Won Game 2

After a disappointing lost at the first game, Shiraishi Yuichi (3 dan) rebound and won game 2 by 3.5 points.

Mitani Tetsuya (left) vs. Shiraishi Yuichi (right)

Shiraishi who played black opened the game by playing 2 komoku opening. He later sacrificed one corner to attack white's group and took a big moyo at the left side. The rest of the game is quite simple. After 246 moves, black won.

Mitani Tetsuya Won First Final

After a very hard struggle for about 8 months, two players managed to reach the final of the 35th Shinjin O.

The first person is Shiraishi Yuichi (3 dan). Things aren't very nice for Shiraishi since he became professional. This is the first final for Shiraishi since he turned to be professional in 2005. Shiraishi's biggest achievement so far.

Shiraishi Yuichi

The second player is Mitani Tetsuya (6 dan). This is Mitani's second final at Shinjin O. Last year he also became finalist, but lost to Ri Ishu (7 dan).

Mitani Tetsuya

The first game was played at September 17 and was won by Mitani. I think Mitani was in control since the beginning of the game. He won by resignation at move 143.

The second game will be played at September 24. This seems to be the last final for Shiraishi since he has passed the age limit. I'm not sure whether Mitani will be allowed to play in the next edition or not, since he will be at the exact age limit at the beginning of the new cycle.

Here is the game record:
Mitani Tetsuya (black) vs. Shiraishi Yuichi (white). Result: B+R.
