Park Yeonghun in GS Galtex Semi-Final

Park Yeonghun became the first person to won the semi-final seat of the 15th GS Galtex Cup. He won by resignation over Kim Junghyun (2 dan). Park will play the winner between Heo Yeongho vs. Lee Younggu match.

Park Yeonghun

What interesting from this game is the trade off between black's big group in the right upper corner with white's big group in the right bottom corner. Black was leading by small margin when white resigned.

Style Can Change

Have you ever felt that your playing style is changing in some ways? Perhaps you fight all along in the past, but now you're more territorial (well, it's the case for me.) or vice versa?

One pro player whose style change a lot is Kobayashi Izumi (6 dan). She used to play like her father, Kobayashi Koichi, in the past. But nowadays, her play looks alike to her husband's, Cho U.

Kobayashi Izumi

Here I present you 2 games of her. Enjoy.

This is a game from 21st Japanese Kisei, 1-dan group final. It was dated back in 1996. Kobayashi Izumi (white) won the game by 1.5 points.

The fourth game of the 65th Honinbo Cup started this morning. Challenger Yamashita Keigo played as black this time.

Put the game on!

Yamashita played a moyo game. He created a big moyo in the right side, but he has an unsettled group at the upper board in return.

Meanwhile, Hane Naoki got 2 corners and some thickness at the right side.

Yamashita handled his sealed move.

Yamashita sealed the move. Now let's see how he'll handle Hane's sabaki in the left side. The game will continue tomorrow

A Game To See : 2008 CCTV Cup

It's been awhile since the last A Game To See series posted. So I chose one game from 2008 CCTV Cup round 2. Black was Fan Yijing (2 dan) and white was Nie Weiping (9 dan).

Fan Yijing (left)

In this game, we can see how a slack opening will bring you into defeat. Fan played a weak opening and let white took the lead very early in the game. Also there is a beautiful squeeze in the top board during the game. I think the game is already decided even before 100 moves played.

Fujisawa Rina Made Her Official Debut

Here is the news from Mainichi Shimbun

An 11-year-old girl made her debut as a professional "Go" (Japanese board game) player during the preliminary round of the 20th Ryusei Tournament on Monday.

Rina Fujisawa, a sixth-year elementary school student from Tokyo, passed the qualifying exam for professional Go players in February this year to become the youngest first-dan professional on record.

Her official debut match was against second-dan Mitsunari Horimoto, 20, held at the Nihon Ki-in in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward.

Fujisawa, who aggressively fought a close match until the middle stages, lost the game after she made a critical mistake and "things started to fall apart."

"It was a bit disappointing, but I want to win next time," she said.

Horimoto praised his young rival, saying "She was strong."

Fujisawa's father Kazunari is an eighth-dan player and her grandfather was the late Honorary Kisei title holder Hideyuki Fujisawa.

"I will do my best so that I can win a title in the future," she said.
