China Took the Lead

Wang Chenxing (2 dan) of China continued her crusade through the 2nd Huanglongshi Cup. After defeating Yoshida Mika at the second game, she beat Lee Sula (3 dan) at the third game earlier today. Wang played black stone this time, while Lee Sula played white.

Lee Sula (left) vs. Wang Chenxing (right)

Wang went for the thickness in the opening. The thickness was not really ideal, but it was enough to capture white's invading stone at white 52 and captured a big left side. The game was still even afterward, but black's thickness at the center helped Wang a lot and Lee Sula resigned after 229 moves when the winner was already decided.

With this victory, China took an early lead. Wang Chenxing will play one of the Japanese member (probably Mukai Chiaki) tomorrow.

Again and Again and Again

Cho Hunhyun is the old tiger. His fangs is still sharp and he proved it by beating Lee Sula (3 dan) at the 5th GG Auction Cup.

Cho Hunhyun used the ko fight at the bottom right corner well. He used the fight to attack black at the right side. White 186 is well timed and it seized the game for Cho.

One more victor and Cho will tie Choi Jung's record

Lee Sula Beauty Shots

It's not only Hei Jiajia who got her beauty shots. Lee Sula who won gold medal in 2010 Asian Games, also got her beauty shot with Maxim Korea. Maxim is a men's magazine known for its revealing pictorials featuring popular actresses, singers, and female models, often pictured scantily dressed but not fully nude.(source: Wikipedia)

And... as usual. There are pros and cons with Sula did this kind of pictorial. I personally don't have any problem, it's not a nude picture anyway.

The Third Strike

Lee Sula did her job again! Not only defeating Seo Bongsoo and Baek Sungho, but she added Kim Soojang (9 dan) in her list. Lee Sula won the 14th game at the 4th GG Auction Cup by 5.5 points.

Lee Sula

Kim Soojang

The opening was similiar to the 13th game. Lee Sula once again played the approaching move, but instead of playing keima, Kim Soojang replied with a high pincer. Kim Soojang later took the bottom board in exchange for the right board.

A fight started when Lee Sula tried to revive her group at the upper board. Kim Soojang tried to kill the whole group, but failed and his big moyo ended up broken. I think this is where black lost the game.

Lee Sula played a very good yose. Move 226 is well timed. In the end, Lee Sula won by 1.5 points.

With this team Senior is down to their last 3 players. Choi Kyubyeong who won the last game for team Senior's victory last year, An Kwangkuk who won 6 consecutive times at the last edition, and team Senior's ace, Cho Hunhyun.

Meanwhile team Female still has 7 players. They are Lee Sula, Kim Yunyoung, Lee Daehyeoi, Kim Hyeoimin, Cho Hyeyeon, Park Jieun, and Rui Naiwei.

Lee Sula Scored Second Victory

The Female team can raise a toast once again, because Lee Sula (1 dan) scored her second victory at the 4th GG Auction Cup.

Lee who previously beat Seo Bongsoo (9 dan) met not Kim Soojang as I mentioned in my previous post, but Baek Sungho (9 dan). The game started with a recently popular opening. Move 6-24 is the usual combination of this opening. I personally dislike white's approach at R14 and prefer the usual R10 since I think the new fashion's outcome is favorable for black.

Lee Sula vs. Baek Sungho

Lee Sula started a fight with her invasion at L3. Black attacked the stone, but later Lee threw the invading stone and used it to steal black's corner. Baek Sungho then tried to split Lee Sula's group at the left side. I personally think black E13 is strange, since it let Lee's group ran out for only 3 stones compensation. I think block at B12 followed by M9 is good enough for black.

And the winner is...

In the end, Lee Sula won the game by 5.5 points.

Here is the game record:
Lee Sula (white) vs. Baek Sungho (black). Result: W+5.5

Two Is Enough

In danger of being evened by the Senior team, Female team decided to send Lee Sula (1 dan) to face Seo Bongsoo (9 dan) who beat 2 Female team's members consecutively. The 18 years old Lee Sula did her job and won the game by resignation.

Seo Bongsoo (left) vs. Lee Sula (right)

The game started in an Anti Mini Chinese opening. Lee Sula abandoned her pinched two stones at the bottom right corner and tried to get a big moyo at the left side instead. However, she managed to escape the two stones as Seo Bongsoo decided to take the upper right corner and a big chunk at the right side.

Lee Sula found a good tesuji at move 59. Seo couldn't capture the attacking stone and soon his group in danger.

Lee again showed a strong attack with move 169. Seo who though his group was safe played a questionable K2. Lee responded with a splitting move at G14 and eventually captured the whole center with the cut at G11. Seo Bongsoo resigned at move 191.

With this victory, Female team take the lead again. Lee Sula will play Kim Soojang (9 dan) next week.

What? Don't mess up with me!
